May 2014

On May 22nd, students and staff who work in the Moon Valley Preschool held a promotion ceremony for our little whippersnappers who will move on to kindergarten next year.  Since August, select students from this program worked alongside preschool staff to teach and mentor the little Rockets.  Preschool students at Moon Valley not only enjoy playtime and socialization, but were taught reading, writing, math and science via a curriculum developed jointly between our students and preschool staff.  It has been an active and fulfilling year for everyone in the C.O.O.P. or Child Oriented Occupational Program.  So much so, that some of our students will move on to an education and/or careers in this field, because of the positive and compelling experiences this course offered.

The celebration was a joint collaboration with culinary and theatre arts students.  Western style props set the scene for the ceremony and were a creation of the technical crew in the drama department.  Performers whipped up a little number for our buckaroos who danced to “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Disney’s Toy Story.  Our little cowpokes joined in on the fun by singing and dancing to songs like “Pizza Song” and “Tootie Tot”.  Finally, our culinary students contributed by catering the event and providing and serving lunch and cake for the entire crowd.

It has been a rewarding and busy year for everyone involved in our Preschool program.  We are so proud of our little Rockets who are now ready for Kindergarten and wish our seniors, who were so devoted to the little ones, the very best as they move into their next chapter of life.

It’s time to say goodbye
Our year has come to an end.
We’ve made more cherished memories
And many more new Friends.
We’ve watched your children grow
And change from day to day.
We hope that all the things we’ve done
Have helped in some small way.
So it’s with happy memories
We send them out the door,
With great hope and expectations
For what next year holds in store.
