For a lot of us, pets hold a very special place in our lives and hearts.  It is for this reason teacher, Jenelle Collins, established a club on campus called Rescue Rockets.  The goal is to outreach to the pets in our community.  Just a few months ago, this group held a free dog wash and at the same time washed cars for donations in order to fund their pet supply drive.  Supplies are still being actively collected like: food (for every kind of pet i.e. rabbits, hamsters), treats, blankets and towels, toys, collars and leashes, and bowls.  These supplies are then donated to local shelters.

Their most recent undertaking has been to sew blankets for shelter pets.  Donations of fabric and sewing supplies can always be used and are gratefully accepted.  The group began sewing before the winter break, and will continue to work on this project through the cold season.   Most have never sewn before so it is a learning process made easier by online tutorials.  Club members find this experience relaxing and rewarding.  The group has been communicating with local shelters and soon they will distribute the blankets to the shelters who indicate the greatest need.  We commend the Rescue Rockets for stepping up to deliver comfort to some very vulnerable animals this winter.  It will be a joy to see what project they come up with next.
