November 2014

The Moon Valley Band program has had an exciting year.  It began with the addition of Gordon Williford, our new Band Director and instructor.  Mr. Williford comes to us after serving as the Marching Band director for Deer Valley High School the past six years. During his tenure at Deer Valley, the band made six trips to state and five trips to state championships, finishing as high as second. Before that Mr. Williford spent much of his time on the road as a producer and professional musician.  The time touring the states has given him unique insight that he is able to share with his students that want to pursue a career or even a hobby in music. For the past six years he has also served as the Dean of Men at NAU Summer Music Camp. He joins our faculty with three major goals: having the band embrace their roles as part of the Moon Valley community; continuing to build a successful band and instrumental education program; and giving any student that wishes, the opportunity to express themselves through music.

On Saturday, October 25th, the Moon Valley Pride amped it up at the Goldwater Invitational.  The group received an Excellent rating and raised their score high enough to compete in the State Marching Competition.   On Saturday, November 1st, the band competed at the State Marching Competition receiving an Excellent rating and being awarded a special caption for Outstanding Music Performance. The success this year has come through hard work and dedication, and is a great foundation for the future. We look forward to watching the band as they endeavor to challenge themselves and set new goals each year.
