October 2014

Have you heard of Title I?  You probably haven’t, but this federal law and the funds which stream into our school district contributes greatly to our successes at Moon Valley.  It all began in 1965 when through the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidency, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act was passed.  Its overall goal was to provide funding to insure equal opportunity to all school age children, thereby leading to an education system with high standards.  Over the years Congress has continually re-enacted the law, enriching our schools in many ways.

One element Title I provides at Moon Valley is our BLAST Center which offers a place to do homework and free tutoring before and after school.  Each year, the BLAST Center sponsors the Freshman Fall Festival which was recently held on October 1.  Mrs. Veronica Carlson who leads the BLAST Center said, “It was a record turn-out”! Over 400 students and parents enjoyed the carnival style games, activities and refreshments.  Our freshman class rocks in school spirit and participation.  Thanks to everyone involved for making the evening such a success.
