September 2014

Hello Moon Valley Parents,

I’d like to officially introduce myself as we get the school year underway. My name is Officer Joel Bell and I’ve been fortunate enough to start this 2014-2015 school year at Moon Valley High School.

My title is School Resource Officer (SRO) and I am a 7 ½ year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department. The position of SRO is part of the Community Relations Bureau of the Phoenix Police Department. Prior to coming to Moon Valley High School, I was assigned to the Patrol Division of the PHX PD working all over the city. I was able to apply for the position of SRO and chose to come to Moon Valley.

My role here at the school is to be a visible crime deterrent, be the liaison between the PHX PD and MVHS, handle criminal related incidents that occur on campus, be a resource to students and staff when it comes to law as well as teach law related education while here at MVHS.

I encourage you to speak with your MVHS student to get to know what’s going on in their lives both on and off campus. This goes from discussions about social media to jaywalking to relationships.

I have an open-door policy with students and that is no different when it comes to parents. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at joel.bell@guhsdaz.org or contact me at my desk phone 623-915-8016.

Thank you and it’s a pleasure to meet you.
