Career & College Fair 2009
Posted on 9/29/2009
Dr. AamannJuniors and seniors participated in Moon Valley’s annual Career & College Fair last Friday, September 25th. More than 60 visitors offered presentations on more than 40 diverse careers and 13 different popular colleges through the annual Arizona High School & College Relations Council (AZHSCRC) visitation.

Moon Valley culinary students served a hot breakfast for career presenters beginning at 7:15am. Guests were delighted with the servers’ professionalism, the colorful table covers, and lovely fresh flower centerpieces. Uniformed Junior Naval ROTC students were on early parking lot duty and offered escort service to the presenters.

Both juniors and seniors selected from many topics and received the opportunity to hear from at least three different presenters at the Career Fair. Topics included Study Abroad, with ASU’s Global Ed department presenting and Dave McMain speaking to students about Automotive Careers. Our So You Want to Be a Doctor panel featured a local pediatric surgeon, a doctor of physical therapy and an optometrist. Three local authors also donated their time to speak to our students about Writing Careers through the Arizona Authors Association.

College Visitation immediately followed the Career Fair for seniors only. Representatives were available in two breakout sessions per student. Presenting schools included Glendale Community College, Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. Some presenters traveled quite a distance to speak to students, such as Eastern Arizona College (EAC) and Central Arizona College (CAC).

Students spent about 25 minutes with presenters in classrooms and learned inside information regarding education to achieve in the field and what day-to-day activities are performed or college information about admissions, financial aid and campus culture.

Students reported back to their regular schedules at noon. College presenters finished up with a luncheon provided by our Assistant Principal of Operations and Resources, Mr. Eddie Lopez.
