Senior Roberto Ortega of Moon Valley High School was selected to show his clay bust titled, “Stranger Than Fiction” at the 17th Annual National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition which will take place at NCECA 2014, 48th Annual Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The17th Annual National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition is the premier juried ceramic competition for Kindergarten through Grade 12 (K-12) students in the United States.

Designed to showcase the best K12 ceramic work made in the country, the exhibition takes place in a different city each year in conjunction with the annual conference of The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA). This year’s show will be held at the Wisconsin Center located at 400 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, March 19th- 22nd.

The NCECA conference is the preeminent ceramic event in the US annually, gathering professionals from universities, colleges, museums, art galleries and the ceramic arts world to a host city to view exhibitions, demonstrations, talks and other ceramic events. For that week, the host city is the world capital of ceramics.

There were a total of 1154 entries into this show, and only 150 student’s works were chosen. Roberto's 3-D teacher Marilynn Williams noted that to her knowledge no other Arizona high school student in the State was juried into this prestigious exhibition. Roberto is competing with the top high school art students throughout the country. The recognition of his talent at this level is an amazing feat.
