Rocket Reporter Earns Awards

The Arizona Interscholastic Press Association (AIPA) celebrated their annual State Journalism Fall Convention at ASU’s Main Campus.  The day featured opening speaker Mark Lodato of ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications, various session offerings for advisers and students, keynote speaker Steve Irvin of ABC 15 and contest awards in media, yearbook and newspaper.
 
Moon Valley newspaper students walked away with “superior”, “excellent” and “honorable mention” awards from the contest. Sophomore Micaela Ontiveros won “Excellent” for her sports story: “Varsity spiritline competes in Nationals” and “Honorable Mention” for her news story: “Arizona teachers walk out to support students.” Sophomore Taylin Cook won “Honorable Mention” for review writing: “Dua Lipa…” Graduates Rage Johnston took “Superior” and “Honorable Mention” and Kiarra Spottsville took two “Honorable Mention” awards.
 
The event brought in over 30 speakers, 600 students and 40 advisers from around the state of Arizona.
