At the end of each year, Moon Valley Theatre Arts, celebrates its accomplishments at the Tony Awards which took place on May 15th.   Whether the student is in the spotlight acting or behind the scenes making the show happen, they were all center stage at this year’s occasion.  Instructor, Julie Rasor, has carried on the long standing tradition of partnering with the International Thespian Society, honoring those who do theatre well.

A big part of the night was paying tribute to our actors.  Selections for these awards were determined by a panel of “Tony” judges comprised of teachers who attended the performances.  The judges voted for their favorites in each type of category from the fall and spring productions with the leader in each area receiving their awards and accolades from Mrs. Rasor.  Not to be outshined, our Technical Crew received recognition as well.  Mr. Jonathan Peters along with Mrs. Rasor, honored the shining stars among this group of students.

As the celebration moved into the evening it was time to induct sixteen new members into the International Thespian Society with the dramatic candlelit setting.  This tribute required diligence on the part of the inductee as they earned their membership by working at least 100 hours in two of three areas: acting, directing and technical.

To cap off the evening, graduates were presented with tassels and stoles and then everyone enjoyed a “year in review” slide show that also included a special commemoration for the seniors.  Mrs. Rasor also makes sure to recognize someone special from the community and the Moon Valley staff.  Moon Valley would like to thank Mr. Ken Bond for all of his volunteer hours.   And to Mrs. Vernon who will be retiring at the end of the year, “All the world’s a stage”, and we know you will shine in whatever you are doing.
