How Open Enrollment Works

Families across Arizona may apply for their student to attend a GUHSD school outside their designated boundary. Applications are reviewed annually and are based on available space at each school.

To remain enrolled through open enrollment, students must maintain:

• Strong academic performance
• Regular attendance
• Positive behavior

Families do not need to reapply each year unless they wish to attend a different school. Please note that some campuses may be closed to new open enrollment applicants due to high enrollment.

Important Steps for Families

To complete the open enrollment/variance process, parents and guardians should:

1. Pick up the required checklist of information from the high school.
2. Submit all the necessary paperwork listed on the checklist.
3. Once paperwork is received, families will be given an open enrollment form to complete at the school.
   1. The student’s in-district home school will sign and date the top portion of this form.
4. Schools will continue processing open enrollment submissions as they are received.

Remember: Online registration for the 2026–2027 school year begins December 1. We encourage families to prepare early and review the necessary steps in advance.
